Concrete Finisher

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a full-time Project Manager in our Heath office.

The Concrete Finisher performs tasks involving physical labor at heavy construction projects. The position may operate a variety of hand and power tools, prepare sites for concrete, set braces for support of projects, and remove waste materials.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy commercial construction projects; perform manual work in preparing concrete surfaces.
  2. Operate a variety of complex equipment including trucks, backhoes, air compressors, jackhammers, pumps, loaders, concrete saws and mixers, hammer drills, generators, ride-on trowel machines, walk-behind trowel machines and other similar equipment and machinery in repairing and installing concrete.
  3. Footers: Layout, install rebar, shoot elevations, build batter boards, build pier boxes, build step forms, and install anchor bolts.
  4. Preparation: install base gravel, shoot elevations, form openings, install reinforcing, install vapor barrier, install expansion, thickened slab areas.
  5. Form Panels: Layout, install all types of concrete wall forms and curb forms.
  6. Sidewalks: Layout, form preparation, pour and finish sidewalks and handicap ramps.
  7. Slab on Grade Concrete: Run pump hose, drag concrete, straight edge – one and 2-man, run concrete truck chute, shoot grade, finish work – edges, broom, hand trowel, tooling, curing.
  8. Control Joints: Lay out control joints, cut with walk behind saw or hand held saws.
  9. Maintain safety regulations including wearing appropriate clothing, erecting proper barricades and signage and using proper equipment and materials.
  10. Utilize a variety of hand and manual tools to complete site projects.
  11. Provide technical support to assist staff in the completion of their duties and responsibilities; provide functional and technical leadership and training as needed.
  12. May participate in a variety of activities involving travel between various job sites and to other related external business and government agencies, which may include site preparations and evaluations and hauling materials and debris.
  13. May answer questions and provide information to the public pertaining to project site including informing people of hazardous areas and the need to remove vehicles.
  14. May remove debris and materials from job sites as necessary.
  15. Repair damaged water utility piping as necessary; install and remove piping as required.
  16. Clean assigned equipment and related parts as required; order, maintain and stock supplies and materials; estimate material needs.
  17. May respond to emergency situations as requested including hazardous and severe weather conditions.
  18. Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of the Superintendent, Safety Coordinator or HR Director.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions (bending, squatting, twisting, crawling, kneeling and climbing). The employee works in confined spaces, lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination and effective audio-visual perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, communicating with others and operating assigned equipment according to safety standards. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 40 hours per week, and weekends as advised.

Travel
Travel is primarily based on business need and job location, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  2. Four years’ experience involving the use of medium and heavy equipment, two of which must have been related to utility or street systems.
  3. Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  4. Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.

Preferred Education and Experience
CDL Class A or B

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment.
  2. Must successfully complete a Drug Screen and Background Check.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable)
Must be able to successfully complete the I-9 requirements.
