Steel Erection Foreman

We are looking for a Steel Erection Foreman who will be responsible for the administrative and technical management of the installation of structural steel and miscellaneous metals work on project sites. The Steel Erection Foreman provides crew management and field technical direction and ensures adherence to contract requirements, safety and quality standards. The position requires comprehensive technical knowledge of the construction process and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.

In this role, the Steel Erection Foreman performs tasks involving physical labor. Duties may include but are not limited to operating hand and power tools, operating heavy equipment, preparing sites, layout, welding, erecting structural steel members, metal buildings, installing decking, stairs, railings, metal siding, metal roofing, etc.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate steel erection self-perform work and associated contractors hired to perform erection-specific tasks.
  • Provide direction, training, and support to ensure a productive and skilled workforce.
  • Prepare weekly look-ahead schedules and communicate progress to the superintendent.
  • Train and mentor crew members to improve skills and efficiency.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills. 
Project Coordination
  • Proactively plan and coordinate work in advance of crews arriving on site.
  • Manage daily operations of assigned crew and tasks to ensure work stays on schedule and within budget.
  • Communicate project goals and updates with project managers and superintendents.
  • Coordinate, at times, specific inspections including 3rd party technical inspections, deliveries, and site access.
  • Provide daily reports of progress and productivity to the superintendent.
Site Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce job site safety policies and ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
  • Participate in and/or lead daily safety checklists, job safety analysis, and toolbox talks.
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability among all workers.
  • Evaluate site conditions and tasks to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices.
Quality Control & Workmanship
  • Ensure all work meets or exceeds building codes and project specifications.
  • Identify and address potential issues with assigned and existing work in place from other trades to ensure proper installation.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, time sheets as needed, and progress reports.
  • Track material usage and inventory.
  • Report project updates and issues to supervisors and project managers.
  • Prepare weekly look-ahead schedules and communicate progress to the superintendent 
Blueprint & Plan Interpretation
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, steel erection drawings, and specifications.
  • Translate plans into actionable tasks for the team.
  • Identify discrepancies or conflicts in documents and coordinate resolutions.
  • Read and interpret structural steel shop drawings, PEMB plans, and specifications.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial and/or industrial steel construction required.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in commercial and industrial interior and exterior steel erection.
  • Metal component installation including structural steel erection, metal building erection, decking installation, stairs, railings, metal siding, metal roofing, welding, etc.
  • D1.1 certification from the American Welding Society is required.
  • Ability to use specialized surveying equipment for layout and quality control tasks.
  • Rigging, decking, chemical anchors training and/or certifications are required.
  • Successful completion of the NCCER Foreman Training Course (or willingness to complete).
  • OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Proven ability to manage crews and subcontractors effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and reliable transportation.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  •  2+ years in a leadership or foreman role preferred.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor and work in outdoor conditions.
  • Skilled ironworker or millwright background; ability to read technical drawings.
  • Operate aerial lifts, forklifts, skid-steers, and telehandlers as needed. 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of multiple construction disciplines including but not limited to: sitework, masonry, demolition, plumbing, electric, or other construction specialties as they interface with steel components and their installation.
  • Familiarity with local building codes and regulations
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (email, project software, etc.)
  • Welding certification is preferred.
