Steel Erection Laborer

We are looking for a Steel Erection Laborer who will assist with the assembly and installation of structural steel components on project sites. This role involves supporting ironworkers and welders, operating tools and equipment, preparing and maintaining work areas, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met. The position requires physical strength, basic technical knowledge of construction processes, and the ability to adapt to a variety of tasks at elevated heights and in challenging conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in daily work alongside the crew.
  • Complete assigned steel erection tasks as directed by the Superintendent/Steel Foreman.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, torches, and grinders.
  • Assist with rigging, signaling, and guiding loads during crane operations.
  • Support bolting, welding preparation, and alignment of steel members.
  • Clean up scrap, tools, and debris at the end of each shift.
Project Coordination
  • Stage equipment and materials for crew efficiency and maintain momentum throughout the workday.
  • Assist with unloading, moving, and positioning steel beams, decking, and hardware.
  • Relay work progress and production rates to the Steel Foreman.
  • Collect and inventory all tools at the end of each day; secure the site to eliminate hazards.
Site Safety & Compliance
  • Follow the direction of the Steel Foreman, Safety Director, and Superintendent.
  • Enforce job site safety policies and ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
  • Participate in daily safety checklists, job safety analyses, and toolbox talks.
  • Use fall protection and other PPE properly at all times when working at height.
  • Maintain barricades, exclusion zones, and signage around crane and erection areas.
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability among crew members.
Quality Control & Workmanship
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist in aligning, leveling, and bolting steel components to precise measurements.
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of levels, squares, tape measures, and plumb bobs.
  • Support welders and ironworkers in preparing surfaces and materials for connections. 
Documentation & Reporting
  • Track hardware and material usage to maintain inventory availability.
  • Report project updates, issues, and progress to supervisors.
Must-Have Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Proven ability to work effectively in crews and with subcontractors.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Physical ability to perform strenuous labor at heights and in outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and use alignment and leveling tools
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of steel erection and rigging practices.
  • OSHA 10 certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Equipment certifications (aerial lift, forklift, rigging, or willingness to obtain).
