We are offering an exciting opportunity for a full-time Commercial Carpenter in our Heath office.

Commercial Carpenter

The construction carpenter performs tasks involving physical labor and heavy projects on large construction job sites. The position may operate a variety of hand and power tools and may clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove waste materials. The position may assist other craft workers.

Essential Functions

  1. Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy/construction projects.
  2. Assists project team in ensuring timely and successful completion of construction projects.
  3. Will work independently installing trim and cabinets taking extra care while paying attention to detail and finish products.
  4. Performs rough frame work with structural wood and metal walls, trusses and framing.
  5. Will use form carpentry experience with stairs, piers, step down footers, column diamonds.
  6. Installs sheathing, shingles, soffit and gutters on roof and soffit projects.
  7. Removes and installs commercial doors, frames, hardware; install metal and wood frames in a variety of substrates, metal and wood doors and all types of door hardware.
  8. Will use blocking methods with eave blocking, wall blocking and roof blocking.
  9. Installs toilet partitions and accessories and layout grid ceiling tile.
  10. Installs mud, tape drywall assemblies.
  11. Maintains a clean job site: picks up all tools and equipment and secures job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
  12. Performs materials handling and storage.
  13. Loads and unloads trucks and hauls and hoists materials.
  14. Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of the Superintendent, Safety Coordinator or HR Manager.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions (bending, squatting, sitting, balancing, twisting, crawling, kneeling and climbing, use man lifts, construct, install erect scaffolding and ladders). The employee works in confined spaces (lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects, reaches grasps) using abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination and effective audio-visual perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, communicating with others and operating assigned equipment according to safety standards. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 40 hours per week, and weekends as advised.

Travel
Travel is primarily based on business need and job location, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  2. Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  3. Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment.
  2. Must successfully complete a drug screen, background check and motor vehicle report.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable)
Must be able to successfully complete the I-9 requirements.
