The new collections care facility will serve as a home for 900,000 historical artifacts ranging from civil war relics, bones and fossils, clothing and presidential campaign memorabilia that are not on display at the museum. The storage areas are climate and humidity controlled with specialized shelving to optimize the storage capacity. The facility also provides working and office space for preservationists and curators who will be caring for the historical pieces, including an area dedicated to the taxidermy of animal specimens.
The new center will open a whole new era of access to the pieces of Ohio history in the organization’s collection.
